We're a little over a week away from the first departure of the Winter Park Express train from Denver to Winter Park! There is a lot to look forward to, which not only includes skipping the I70 and US 40 traffic, but also lots of entertainment at Winter Park once the train arrives on the inaugural trip. A DJ set will begin at 1pm and continue through 3pm on the patio of West Portal, giveaways and prizes throughout the day, and live music inside the Derailer Bar from 3pm to 5pm. Of course, there is also snowboarding during the day to enjoy without the exhaustion of driving up in Saturday morning traffic. The Winter Park Express will operate every weekend and two Monday holidays from January 7th through March 26th.
If you're interested and wondering how to get tickets, here's some information on ticketing from Amtrak for you:
The Winter Park Express runs Saturdays and Sundays only (plus Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday January 16, 2017, and President's Day Holiday February 20, 2017).
Book your travel on this historic train trip, which originated in 1912, at the early bird price of $39/one way. Only a limited number of seats are available for each train and each price level. Book early before the one-way $39 discount tickets are sold out. Tickets will then be available at $49 and then $59 respectively, as each lower-priced seat sells out. Discounted tickets are sold on a first come first served basis.
With one-way tickets and service on Saturday and Sunday you can make it a day trip, a weekend-long trip or an extended vacation. Customize your length of stay at Winter Park Resort and get as much skiing/riding in as you'd like.
Instead of enduring delays and back-ups on I-70, you can now relax and enjoy the scenery while we do the driving. Here's a look at the Winter Park Express schedule:
- Depart Union Station at 7 am
- Arrive at Winter Park at 9 am
- Depart Winter Park at 4:30 pm

Act fast and treat yourself to a day of mountain fun that doesn't include tail lights.
