While this hunk of wood may not look like much, it is one of the leading reasons why we do what we do. Created by Tom Sims in 1963 in his 7th grade woodworking class, this is what many claim as the original snowboard. Unlike earlier models which relied on a string on the nose to direct the rider, Tom's board utilized rubber straps, which could be called the first snowboard "bindings."
Let's all be thankful that Tom did what he did back in the '60s and beyond. Let's also be thankful that technology has advanced, could you imagine hitting a big jump on this badboy?
This board is currently on display at the Colorado Snowboard Museum in Vail, Colorado.
