So you recently helped write a feature for the magazine, how was your first step into the editorial side of a snowboard magazine?
I enjoyed writing the article a lot, it’s easy to write about something that you’re so passionate about. The story just kind of unfolded for us because it was such an awesome trip. I remember trying to reminisce about the travels and literally laughing out loud to myself from all the funny moments. I mean 9 dudes crammed into one ran driving from Maine to Colorado, you know some good material is bound to come out of it!
You won that van trip through some sort of contest, what was that about?
Yeah, Rome Snowboards has been putting on the local gnar video contest every year since I can remember. This past year they just up'd the prizes and threw in the Rome van for three months, $1000, plus some gas money. They have always put on sick contests, winning it almost supported the whole trip.
You split your time between Colorado and the East Coast, correct? When are you getting back to CO?
This year it wound up that way. After the season, my girl and I were supposed to live in the RV and rough it all over CO, but first day in it, the thing broke down on top of Hoosier Pass and I had to get it towed and the whole shebang. It took way too long to get it fixed and it cost a lot of money so we just moved to PA with the ‘rents and that’s where we've been since. Should be back first week of November, I can't wait for Keystone pre-season, probably my favorite time to ride all year!
Where do you ride mostly?
I split my time between Keystone and Breck, I usually go to Breck to hit jumps and Keystone for rails. So whatever I wake up and feel that day (and of course wherever the homies are riding).
Will ITIS be released online?
Yes, I think our plan is to release it in sections. I'm trying to get my part out this week and then we will release different parts every week from here on out. Should have the entire thing up sometime in December
T.Bird from Snowboarder Mag said the “film was a grassroots success in my opinion, showcasing exactly how you make it to the big leagues.” How does that make you feel?
Sick! That means a lot. We just wanted to really showcase what you can do with some close friends, no money, and good snowboarding. In my opinion it could not have come out any better, the entire movie of was filmed in that month long trip. We were at it every day, so it’s cool to know that people are enjoying it and giving us some props.
Does UKC/Buck 90 plan on making another full-length film?
We have some stuff in the works. If we do make another movie it is going to be a lot different than ITIS. Different riders and more of an all types of snowboarding feel with urban, pow, and park
Who’s responsible for the editing?
It’s a well-rounded effort. My brother, Bryan, did the teaser and a lot of web edits this season but for the film it was the hard work of Dan Callahan (Filmer D), Matt Hines, Steve Lauder, and myself. We just wanted to show snowboarding, no bullshit, and I think we did a pretty good job of that!
