Two avalanche related deaths have been reported in Colorado in just one week. While we are big supporters of exploring new terrain, please remember to practice caution. Here is more information about the unfortunate events from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center:

Kendall Mountain Avalanche Accident
On January 6th a skier was caught, carried, and killed in an avalanche on Kendall Mountain, southwest of Silverton. You can view the preliminary report here. We will update the report as more information becomes available. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the skier killed in this tragic accident, and all of the people affected by it.

Kelso Mountain Avalanche Fatality

On Dec. 31st, a climber was killed in an avalanche on the east side of Kelso Mountain near Torreys Peak. Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragic accident. We will update the Preliminary Report as facts are verified, and CAIC staff will visit the site on Jan. 1. This was the first avalanche fatality in Colorado and the third in the US for the 2014-15 winter.
