After "unseasonably warm" weather forced Keystone (and Copper) to push back their opening days; Keystone Resort has announced the resort will open for the 2014-15 season this Friday, Nov. 7th. Keystone joins Breckenridge and Copper to make a total of 3 opening days this Friday. Wolf Creek has Friday listed as their tentative opening day, but no word yet on an official date.
Here is more of the announcement from Keystone:
"Following a week of productive snowmaking, which you’ve followed along with here on the blog, as well as 5” of natural snowfall (about time, Mother Nature), we’re excited officially get the season underway on Friday.
We continue to see strong overnight temperatures in the forecast, particularly for tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow, so at this time we’re going to allow our teams to continue to do what they do best, and we’ll make an announcement regarding available terrain on Thursday morning.
We appreciate everyone’s patience; this certainly has been a bit of an unusual start to the season, but we’re so fortunate to have an amazing Mountain Operations teams working away, as well as the best guests in the business!
Winter is here, and we can’t wait to get in those first turns of the season!
For those coming out on Friday, we’ll once again host an animated celebration in the base area with free hot chocolate and coffee, donut holes from our fabulous Chef Ned, DJ entertainment and great giveaways. First chair is at 9 a.m., and as they say, early bird gets the worm, or, in this case, the fresh turns.
We’ll continue to provide updates here through Friday’s opening, including the announcement of terrain on Thursday morning. We’ll also maintain this space throughout the early season—with less regular updates—to keep you up-to-date on our operations efforts and terrain openings.
Thanks again for your support over this last week, and please; hug a snowmaker! They’re the heroes of early season every year, but particularly in years like this when Mother Nature is a little late to the party.
Cheers to a great season!"
