Eldora Mountain Resort will install a new high speed detachable six passenger chairlift for the 2017-18 season. Not only will you be able to enjoy Woodward Eldora again next season, but you can also enjoy a new, faster lift that will replace the Cannonball and Challenge fixed grip double and triple chairlifts at the base of the mountain that have been in place since 1973 and 1977 respectively.

β€œThis new high speed lift is another significant improvement that will greatly enhance the Eldora experience for our snowsports community,” said Brent Tregaskis, general manager at Eldora. β€œThe new lift comes on the heels of other recent guest facing improvements such as installing Wi-Fi, replacing the domestic water supply, refurbishing lodge areas, updating restrooms, and adding three new advanced runs. The goal of Eldora and POWDR Adventure Lifestyle Co. is to service our guests and community as best we can.”

The yet-to-be-named lift will have a ride time of approximately four and a half minutes with over a 1,000 ft. vertical rise covering 3,829 ft. in length and a capacity of 3,600 people per hour. This new lift will provide quick access to sensational snow. ELDORA plans to hold a contest to name this new lift, which will be communicated soon.

Construction is set to begin after Eldora closes operations for the winter season. Doppelmayr USA, the aerial lift manufacture based in Salt Lake City, UT, will build and install the lift, with assistance from Highlander Ski Lift Services & Construction INC. Construction plans include positioning the load station between the Indian Peaks and Timbers Lodge for easy loading access.

The new lift and associated construction reflects a significant investment by POWDR and is part of an ongoing commitment to empower Eldora to be the best resort it can be while continuing to provide amazing experiences for families and folks who want to ski more and drive less.

Executing the project in a sustainable manner and with minimal impact to the land is a top priority. Materials from the old lifts, such as motor parts, terminals, lift towers, cables and miscellaneous metals will be recycled. Reusable components, such as generators, will be repurposed elsewhere at the resort. Transitioning from two older generation lifts to one modern lift will reduce the resort’s carbon footprint. Plans for the old chairs include selling some off to the public, etc. More details on plans for the old chairs will be announced as they are available.

JP Chevalier, Eldora Mountain Resort’s director of marketing and skier services, is excited to upgrade the front side lifts. β€œEldora’s proximity is a key attribute for families and kids, and the new lift will impact the guest experience exponentially, from increased carrying capacity and shorter ride time, to allowing entire families and groups of friends to ride together. Every guest will benefit from gaining rapid easy access to Challenge Mountain, Indian Peaks and Corona Bowl.”
