On Friday October 21st, Arapahoe Basin became the first resort in North America to open for the 2016/17 season when the lift started spinning again at 9am! With perfect sunny weather, thousands of people, and 18-inch base it was another great start to the Colorado ski and snowboard season. Costumes could be seen far and wide, the grills were burnin, the beer was flowin, and the dogs were playin, everything you would expect on The Beach where it was a party as always. People could not be more excited that the season is finally here, and the entire A Basin staff couldn’t be happier about winning the race to open by beating out Loveland Ski Resort who hopes to open as early as next week.
First Chair was occupied this year, by not Nate Dogg, but Seth Hill, Zach Griffin, Tom Miller, and Justin Smith. It’s pretty fitting that Zach Griffin would be first on the hill, since he runs a segment in the Summit Daily called On the Hill with Z Griff. And of course they were all smiles, even after sleeping in the cold Thursday night to solidify that first chair spot. Congrats to Arapahoe Basin for once again opening in October for us, here’s to another epic winter in Colorado.
So now that we have one resort open in Colorado, when can we expect the rest of the resorts to open? We’ve got you covered with a list of expected opening dates.
