It's been a powder-filled week in Steamboat, as Mother Nature paid an extended visit to Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A. with nearly 2 feet of snow falling at Thunderhead, the resort’s mid-mountain location at 9,080 feet, and 2.5 feet of snow at the summit in the past seven days.

“The New Year has come in like a lion and powderhounds couldn’t be happier,” said Rob Perlman, senior vice president of sales & marketing. “The snow is here, but the incredible deals we’re offering will only be around for a limited time. So don’t wait to book your winter vacation.”

Steamboat is currently in a storm cycle that has yielded 1 inch at mid-mountain and 3 inches at the summit overnight, 11 inches at mid and 18 inches at the summit in the past 72 hours, and 23.75 inches at mid and 30 inches at the summit in the past week. The resort is reporting a 39-inch base at mid-mountain and 43-inch base at the summit on powder/packed powder conditions.  Currently 137 trails covering 2,493 acres, or 84% of terrain is open, including the resort’s legendary tree skiing area-Shadows, Closets, Flying Z, Twilight and Triangle 3.

Since January 1st, snow has fallen 9 out of 23 days with 4 of those days recording four or more inches. So far this season at mid-mountain, Steamboat has seen a combined total of 103” (8.6 feet) of snow. Forecasts are calling for additional snow tonight and Tuesday, then again Thursday and Friday before clear skies return for the weekend.

The snow has been falling and so are the airfares into Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A. Getting to Steamboat this winter has never been easier. Steamboat’s nonstop flight program will offer convenient access to Ski Town, U.S.A. via nonstop air service from seven major airports on American, Delta, Frontier and United Airlines. “With more storms headed to Ski Town, U.S.A. over the next few days, winter is in full force and everyone should be ready for any type of weather and conditions,” said John Kohnke, patrol director. “If skiing and riding in deep snow or near trees, steer clear of tree wells and stay with a partner. Remember; there is always room for a friend on a powder day.”

The avalanche danger as rated by the Colorado Avalanche Information Centerin the Steamboat zone is CONSIDERABLE as dangerous avalanche conditions persist today. Areas beyond the ski area boundary are not patrolled or maintained.
